  Abstract

In this paper, we proposed the QSFP28(Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable 28Gbps) form-factor type optical transceiver design technique, which can transmit 50Gbps data up to 40km using PAM4(4 level Pulse-Amplitude Modulation) modulation signal. The proposed design technique is designed using only Electro-absorption Modulated Laser(EMA), Transmitter Optical Sub-Assembly(TOSA), low-cost PIN-PD(Positive-Intrinsic-Native Photodiode) and Receiver Optical Sub-Assembly(ROSA) combination to satisfy performance and deduce cost. And we proposed hardware design and firmware design techniques for implementing the optical transceiver. The performance of the implemented QSFP28 optical transceiver has met the standard, and the test results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed technique and the performance of the manufactured optical transceiver and confirmed that it can be applied to real industrial sites.
