  Abstract

In 5G new radio (NR) system, base stations transmit MIB (master information block) which contains important information for user equipments (UEs) including subcarrier spacing and locations of DMRS symbols with physical broadcast channel (PBCH). The MIB which is crucial for UE’s initial access is encoded with polar code and then rate-matched before being mapped onto subcarriers for PBCH. In this paper, we propose simple modification on rate-matching which could improve receiving performance of PBCH by increasing frequency diversity. The proposed scheme improves block error rate performance of PBCH reception without any additional complexity.
