  Abstract

Mobile edge computing (MEC) has attracted significant attention as a means to overcome the latency limitations of cloud-dependent inference. Nevertheless, the increased traffic caused by raw data transmission and the computational burden raise the need for cooperative inference between devices and servers. In this paper, we propose a confidence-based cooperative inference and resource optimization scheme for real-time intelligent surveillance in multi-device MEC environments. The proposed method introduces dual confidence thresholds at the device side to minimize unnecessary offloading and jointly optimizes wireless bandwidth resources to enhance overall system performance. To this end, we establish a mathematical model that jointly accounts for inference accuracy and end-to-end delay, and present an optimization framework that combines block coordinate descent with numerical search. Simulation results confirm that adjusting the proposed confidence thresholds induces a trade-off between accuracy and delay, and further demonstrate that the proposed cooperative inference scheme achieves a superior accuracy-delay balance compared to standalone inference and conventional approaches under diverse conditions
