  Abstract

In addition to diagnosis of temperamental diseases such as tumors, abdomen diagnosis of traditional Korean medicine (TKM) is based on the synthetical analysis of the tension, the structural ratio, the color, the thickness of the abdomen, and the understanding of the pathology of internal organs, and establishes criteria for pattern identifications for correct treatment. The purpose of this study is to develop diagnostic devices, which imitate the abdomen diagnosis and an algorithm to classify functional dyspepsia by using the devices. Diagnostic factors include abdominal stiffness, pain site and sensitivity, body temperature distribution, auscultation, and appearance features, and their efficacy has been demonstrated through clinical studies. In this paper, we will discuss the development of abdominal diagnostic devices for detecting and measuring the areas of pain and its sensitivity, body temperature distribution, and abdominal patterning characteristics. Through the development, it is possible to diagnose the diseases that have difficulty in objective diagnosis so far, and it can be used as a reliable diagnostic method of TKM.
